I've always romanticized going to bingo for a date, this was probably etched into my child brain from the movie My Girl. You know, that scene with Jamie Lee Curtis and Dan Aykroyd? That movie was iconic in so many ways. *excuse me while I shed a tear for Thomas aka Macaulay Culkin*
Now, if you've ever been to a Bingo Hall, you will soon realize there is absolutely nothing romantic about it. However, it is the funnest place to have a date. We basically spent the entire night laughing, which to me, is the best. I would also highly recommend going with your mum for a fun mother-daughter date or even with a bunch of friends. It's just one of those places that you can be silly with no judgement whatsoever.
Let me set the scene for you. We walk in and are immediately reminded of our age. We are significantly younger than 95% of the people in the place. This feels great, I don't remember the last time I was the youngest person anywhere. Everyone is quite friendly however not overly helpful to newcomers. We did not know the rules and got confused and behind a few times. I think they assumed everyone knew what to do, after all its bingo and not rocket science. We look around us and see that these people are serious about bingo. Everyone has multiple cards. I'm talking several 9 card books per person. We got 1 x 9 card book each, which for beginners was a bit overwhelming. We start to play and it's a bit faster pace than we thought it might be but soon we get the hang of it. People are calling out BINGO. Exciting! The winners are thrilled. We are however, not one of the lucky winners on this night. It was still super fun and a cheap date idea.
If you are looking for something new to do, a cheap date night or just a fun time with friends, I highly recommend checking out your local BINGO hall!
PRO TIP: Don't talk too much between games, you will easily miss what game is being played next. They play turbo rounds in between the regular games and things can get really confusing.
